Capture
No 360 camera. Just the iPhone in your pocket.
Stand in the middle of the room and follow a dot around the screen. The app takes 30 photos on its own and stitches them into one 360° photo on the phone.
The problem
A 360° tour usually means a 360 camera and a tripod, carried to every viewing.
The usual fix
Buy the camera, or pay a photographer every time a new listing comes in.
With RoomTour
The iPhone is enough. The app shows you where to point at every moment and takes each photo itself.
One room, one turn.
-
1 · Stand in the middle
Stand in the centre of the room and keep the phone close to your body. Turn on the spot. Don't walk.
-
2 · Follow the dot
At each stop you aim up, straight ahead and down, then turn a little to the right. That's 10 stops and 30 photos in a single turn.
-
Recreation using a room from the example flat. 3 · Stitched on the phone
The iPhone joins the 30 photos into one 360° photo. You check it and tap "Use this 360" or "Redo". Then on to the next room.
What you get
One dot at a time
The screen shows only the next dot. If it's off screen, an arrow tells you which way to turn.
It takes the photo for you
When the circle sits on the dot and the phone is still, it fires. There's no button to press.
It tells you when something's off
Turn too fast, drift away from your spot or shoot in dim light, and the app waits and tells you what to do.
Photos that line up
Each photo records where the phone was and which way it faced. Your phone moves a few centimetres as you turn, and the app corrects for that when stitching, so nearby furniture doesn't show up twice.
Same exposure all the way round
At the start the camera reads the light for a couple of seconds, then holds it until the last photo. That keeps bright and dark bands out of the panorama. Needs iOS 16 or later.
8192 pixels
You first see a quick version to check it. The final photo is 8192 × 4096 and it's finished on the iPhone before it uploads.
What you need
- An iPhone on iOS 15.1 or later. No LiDAR, tripod or other gear.
- Lights on or curtains open. If it's too dark, the app says so.
- On an iPhone with LiDAR (the Pro models), the app also scans the walls. That gives you the floor plan and the 3D model.
- It's in every plan, including the free one. Details on the pricing page.
Questions about capture
Do the ceiling and floor show up?
The walls, most of the ceiling and the floor around you come from your photos. Right under your feet there's a circle no photo covers; the app fills it with the floor's colour and the viewer won't let you look straight at it. The very centre of the ceiling gets the same treatment when the photos don't reach it. No furniture or objects are added.
What if a room comes out badly?
Before moving on you see the 360° and choose "Use this 360" or "Redo". You can also redo a room later from the room list.
Can I stop halfway?
Yes. The draft is saved on the iPhone and you can pick it up later on the same phone.
Do I need an iPhone Pro?
No. Any iPhone on iOS 15.1 or later makes the full 360° tour. The LiDAR on Pro models only adds the floor plan and the 3D model.
Does it work on Android?
Coming soon: the Android app is on its way. For now capture is iPhone-only, and tours open on any phone or computer, with nothing to install.
Was the example flat made with the app?
No. Its photos are free (CC0) panoramas from Poly Haven, at the same size and in the same viewer as a published tour. The recreations on this page use those same photos.
